Description

Course Overview:

This course will include a series of didactic lectures and interactive case-based
presentations focused on addressing the multidisciplinary management of gastrointestinal
cancers. By attending this course, physicians and health care workers will learn about the new developments in the management of GI cancers and how to better coordinate the role of the different specialties in the management of these malignancies

Target Audience:

This educational activity is specifically designed for medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, interventional radiologists, gastroenterologists, and other healthcare providers interested and/or involved in the treatment of patients with gastrointestinal malignancies.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Effectively participate in the multidisciplinary team approach in the management of gastric and gastro-esophageal junction cancers
  • Determine optimal management approaches for patients with gastroesophageal cancer based on current guidelines and best practices
  • Incorporate the advantages and disadvantages of different treatment paradigms when making treatment decisions for patients with gastric cancer
  • Integrate recent advances in the treatment of gastrointestinal stromal tumor into therapeutic plans for appropriate patients
  • Employ the most current treatment modalities and best practices for early stage and advanced colorectal cancer and anal cancer
  • Apply current treatment recommendations and best practices for biliary tract malignancy, including cholangiocarcinoma and gall bladder cancer
  • Include current patient selection criteria when determining transplantation versus resection for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma
  • Demonstrate the multidisciplinary team approach in the care of patients with gastrointestinal malignancy through interactive case-based presentation
